This is a step by step photo tutorial on how to sew Lola Lounge Shorts Top using our #LolaShorts sewing pattern.
We offer three ways of instructions for each of our sewing patterns. First is drawing instruction which you’ll find in your booklet once you purchase the pattern, two is a photo step by step tutorial which you can see below and three as a sew-along YouTube video. By doing this we want to offer variations of options depending on your preferences, but also help beginners.
This sewing pattern is available in UK 6-16 / EU 34-44 / US 2-12/ AU 6-16 and can be printed in A4, Letter and A0 size.
As the drawstring is non-functional the following steps are just optional. Fold drawstring piece and sew so it’s at least 1cm wide.
Trim the seam allowance.
Bag out the drawstring using a safety pin or a loop turner.
Tie a knot on the ends and trim the excess bit.
Take two front panels. Pin and sew front rise together. Overlock the front rise.
Take two back panels. Pin and sew back rise together. Overlock the back rise.
Place front shorts panel on the back panel and sew sides together. Then, overlock the seams. Sew the inseam. Then, overlock the seam.
Fold waist by 1cm and then again by 4cm and secure with pins.
Topstitch the waistband and leave a small gap to insert the elastic.
Wrap slightly stretched elastic around your waist and add 2cm. My elastic will measure 69cm and it’s 35mm wide.
Use a safety pin to insert the elastic to the waistband.
Overlap the ends of the elastic and sew the ends together.
Then, topstitch the opening on the waistband.
Depending on the fabric you’re using you can overlock the hems and topstitch. The other way to finish is to fold the shorts hem by 3cm run a zig-zag stitch right on the edge of the folded seam.
If you are using a zig-zag stich run the sitch right on the edge of just folded fabric.
Sew drawstring to the waistband centre front.
