About us
Welcome,
I’m Karolina, the person behind tintofmintPATTERNS.
Crafts and DIY have always been a huge part of my life. When I was little, I used to make clothes for my dolls, and at 13 I got my first sewing machine and started teaching myself how to sew.
That spark eventually led me to study Fashion Design at university, where I gained the technical knowledge and expertise in pattern making and design that now goes into everything I make.
I feel beyond grateful that I get to share the things I’ve learned with you through all the projects I create. My hope is to inspire you to sew your own clothes, be creative, and make pieces that feel truly YOURS.
Motto, “Buy less, make more,” is at the heart of what I stand for. For me, handmade clothes are a form of self-expression, but also a more conscious choice making clothes that are unique to us, that we’ll love and wear for years to come.
The process
Inspiration finds me everywhere, but most often when I’m looking at fabric. Seeing all the different colours, textures and possibilities gives me so many ideas. Sometimes, it also starts with something I’ve wanted for years but could never find anywhere, so eventually I decide to make it myself.
Rather than following trends, I tend to follow my own style. I choose colours that suit my complexion and shapes that I know I’ll want to wear for years. I naturally lean towards romantic and feminine designs. I love feeling feminine in the clothes I wear, and that always comes through in what I design. Usually, it starts with a little sketch in my notebook before making its way onto my moodboard.
Once I have the idea, the chaos begins. Finding the right fabric is incredibly important, and then there are all the little things that go with it matching trims, thread, zips and buttons. We hear all the time that the key is in the details, and I really couldn’t agree more. I use my custom Stockman mannequin to drape, move things around and play with different shapes, folds and textures until something starts to feel right.
Then comes one of my favourite parts: pattern drafting. This is where the design really starts to come to life and all the crazy ideas and shapes somehow find a much simpler form. I’ve always been fascinated by garment construction growing up, I would actually unpick clothes just to see how they had been made.
Because of that, I always try to find the simplest and most accessible way to construct my designs, especially for beginner sewists. I hope that comes across in my patterns and tutorials.
From there, I move into sampling and testing, which is probably the most time-consuming part of the whole process. Sometimes I make four or five samples before I’m completely happy with the fit and construction. Once everything feels right, I make the final garment and film a sew-along video so you can follow the whole process with me.
The final stage is all about precision: digitising and grading the pattern, preparing the instruction booklet and going through all the little details one more time.
And then finally comes one of the most exciting parts photographing the finished piece and seeing everything I had imagined at the beginning come together.
By sharing this process, I hope to give you a little glimpse behind the scenes and show you just how much thought, work and love goes into every sewing pattern I make.
Behind the Scenes
Sharing my sewing patterns and other craft projects brings me so much joy. I also love photography and capturing little moments along the way, and my background in content creation lets me bring all of those things together and share them with you.
If this is your first time here, then hi! I’m so happy you found your way here, and I hope you’ll decide to stay for a little longer. And remember, you can always reach out to me with any questions, I’m here to help!
