Sew With Me: A Little Company for Your Next Sewing Project

Sewing is not exactly the most social activity, is it? Most of the time, it's just you, your sewing machine, and a stash of fabric in your room.

And while I absolutely love spending hours sewing, I usually need something playing in the background. A podcast, some music, or a TV show I've already watched a hundred times so I don't get too distracted. But what if, instead of listening to someone talking about something completely unrelated, you could have someone sewing alongside you?

That's how I came up with the idea of recording a 'sew with me' video. Something you can put on in the background while working on your own project, almost as if we're sharing the same sewing room. Maybe it'll even give you that extra bit of motivation to finally finish the project that's been sitting on your table for weeks.

I record myself making a skirt from start to finish for an hour and a half. I set up my camera above my working table so you could see the whole thing. I also wanted to keep the natural sounds of sewing rather than adding music or talking over the video. Which, funnily enough, meant I had to work in complete silence. I couldn't have my usual radio or playlist playing in the background because of YouTube's copyright rules.

And I have to admit, it felt a little strange at first. I'm so used to having something on while I sew that sitting there with nothing but the sound of my sewing machine was quite unusual. But after a while, I actually got into it. No distractions, no stopping to choose another song, just me concentrating on sewing.

The skirt I'm making in the video is actually a new sewing pattern I've been working on, and I'm very excited to share it with you soon. I won't give away too much just yet, but you'll get to see the whole skirt coming together in the video, which is a little sneak peek before the pattern is officially released.

This video isn't meant to be a step-by-step tutorial. Think of it more as a little sewing company. I hope it makes your next sewing session feel a little less solitary. And who knows, maybe we'll both manage to finish a project that's been waiting for far too long. So, make yourself a cup of tea, get your fabric out, and let's sew together.

Happy sewing,

Karolina
