Starting with the Classic Shirt

When I set out to design my first men’s pattern, I knew it had to be a shirt. A good shirt is the backbone of any wardrobe, simple at first glance but completely dependent on the fit. I spent countless hours sewing samples, tweaking seam lines, adjusting sleeve lengths, and reworking collars until everything sat just right. It took many rounds of testing to get there because I wanted the shirt to feel comfortable, timeless, and flattering all at once.

Fit was my top priority. A handmade shirt should feel as good as it looks, and I believe that when the fit is right, the sewing process is even more rewarding. Starting with this classic piece felt like the best way to build a strong foundation for my men’s collection, and I’m excited to keep adding more patterns that carry the same care and attention to detail.

CLASSIC SHIRT

A Shirt Put to the Test

I’ve already sewn this shirt four times for my boyfriend, each one in a different fabric. There’s a soft waffle in crisp white, a cotton with green stripes, a bold red stripe, and an off-white knit with a more relaxed feel. Each version has its own character, but the fit stays the same comfortable, flattering, and easy to wear.

It has quickly become his favourite shirt, the one he reaches for again and again no matter the fabric. For me, that’s the best confirmation that the pattern works: versatile, reliable, and worth making more than once.
