Sewing in Colour: My Colour Trends for 2026
Every year, there is a lot of noise around “the colour of the year”. One shade, one name, one story that is supposed to fit everyone.
But sewing has never worked that way for me.
Sewing is personal. It is tactile, emotional, and deeply connected to how we want to feel in our clothes. Colour plays a huge role in that. Much more than trends, colour is a way to express mood, season, softness, confidence, warmth, or simplicity.
For 2026, instead of following one imposed colour, I am choosing a palette. A range of colours that feel joyful, wearable, timeless, and expressive. Colours that translate beautifully into handmade garments and that make sense in everyday wardrobes.
Here is how I see sewing in colour for 2026.
Yellow
Sunshine, Warmth, and Energy
Yellow is pure light.
It is the colour of warm mornings, sun-soaked holidays, and pieces that instantly lift your mood. In sewing, yellow works beautifully when paired with texture.
Think quilted jackets with visible stitching, playful trims, relaxed trousers, or even a swimsuit sewn for long summer days. Yellow shines especially well in natural fabrics like cotton twill, canvas, poplin, or quilting cottons. It also works surprisingly well in structured garments, where the colour becomes the statement.
Yellow is not a shy colour. It is meant to be worn with confidence and joy.

Green
Fresh, Calm, and Effortless
Green feels like spring.
It is one of the easiest colours to wear and to integrate into a handmade wardrobe. From soft sage to deeper botanical tones, green brings calm and balance.
For 2026, green feels perfect for dresses, linen tops, skirts, and relaxed summer garments. Satin dresses in green feel elegant without being too formal. Linen and cotton in green feel breathable, natural, and timeless.
Green works especially well with simple silhouettes. Let the fabric and the colour speak.

Brown
Autumn Textures and Comfort
Brown is the colour of autumn sewing.
It is warm, grounding, and deeply satisfying to work with. In 2026, brown shines through texture. Corduroy bags, off-shoulder tops, structured trousers, and cozy accessories feel right at home in this palette.
Brown pairs beautifully with heavier fabrics like corduroy, wool blends, twill, and denim. It is perfect for pieces you want to wear again and again when the seasons shift.
Brown feels nostalgic, but modern at the same time.

Pink
Softness and Romance
Pink will always have a place in my sewing.
For 2026, pink feels romantic, warm, and expressive. Satin skirts, fluid dresses, and soft silhouettes come alive in pink. It is a colour that invites movement and light.
Pink works beautifully in satin, viscose, silk blends, and lightweight cottons. It feels special without being overwhelming.
It is not about being girly. It is about embracing emotion through colour.
Blue
Summer Ease and Freshness
Blue feels like summer by the sea.
It is calm, refreshing, and endlessly wearable. In sewing, blue translates beautifully into dresses, swimsuits, crop tops, and relaxed summer pieces.
From pale sky blue to deeper ocean tones, blue works well in stretch fabrics, cottons, linens, and swimwear materials.
Blue is a safe choice, but never boring.
Black
Sophisticated and Timeless
Black remains timeless.
For 2026, black feels refined and elegant rather than severe. Satin dresses, lace details, tailored blazers, and fluid silhouettes bring softness to this classic colour.
Black works beautifully when combined with texture. Satin, lace, crepe, and structured fabrics elevate simple designs.
Orange
Warmth, Movement, and Boldness
Orange is joy.
It is warm, expressive, and full of life. For 2026, orange works beautifully in summer dresses, fluid silhouettes, satin fabrics, and playful accessories like scrunchies.
Orange shines in lightweight fabrics that move with the body.
Lilac
Soft Elegance and Modern Romance
Lilac feels delicate and sophisticated.
It is softer than purple, more subtle than pink, and incredibly elegant in handmade garments. Satin maxi dresses, skirts, refined details, and thoughtful finishing touches feel elevated in lilac.
Lilac works best with clean lines and minimal designs.
Choosing Colour Over Trends
There will always be a colour of the year. Often neutral, often safe. While those shades have their place, they should never limit creativity.
Sewing gives us freedom. The freedom to choose colour, texture, and design based on how we want to feel.
For 2026, my advice is simple.
Sew in colour.
Choose what feels right for you. Let your wardrobe be expressive, joyful, and personal.
Because the most important trend will always be wearing what you love.
Happy Sewing,
Karolina
